Arun Microelectronics Ltd. (AML) became a manufacturing company in 1986, having operated for some years as a design consultancy. We rapidly established ourselves as and continue to be a major supplier of UHV gauges and controllers in Europe. AML is now the UK's only manufacturer of ultra-high vacuum ionization gauges and controllers. Limited production of vacuum-compatible stepper motors (VCSMs) was started in 1986. The use of motors in terrestrial vacuums was a novelty then so vacuum mechatronics in Europe was largely created using AML motors and drives. Seven years of experience and development culminated in the introduction of the 'B' series motors in 1993. Detail improvements continue and current motors produce gas loads which are two orders of magnitude less than the best which could be achieved ten years ago. Acceptance of the concept of VCSMs and the number of application areas are rapidly increasing. Arun Microelectronics operates from modern premises situated alongside the River Arun, in view of the Norman castle and cathedral of the historic town of Arundel, West Sussex, England. AML Vacuum Mechatronic Products   UHV Stepper Motors Motors in frame sizes 14 and 17 are available from stock. Larger motors can be manufactured to order and high-torque selections or shaft and lead variations are readily available. Drive and Accessories The SMD2 drive has an extremely versatile and powerful command structure which is accessible to users with no programming experience. Connection to the motors is simplified by the use of AML leads, feedthroughs, in-vacuum connectors, accessories, components and kits. UHV Materials and small components OFHC Copper plate, Polyimide-insulated wire, bearings, shafts, circlips, collars, gears, leadscrews and nuts, thermocouples, barrel and crimp connectors and UHV-compatible ceramic and plastic materials and components used in AML products are available separately to purchasers of AML motors, cleaned for UHV use and packed in small quantities.   Copyright © VTS Ltd. 2007
